On average, American Red Cross Colorado Chapters RESPOND TO A DISASTER EVERY 21 HOURS.
We provide disaster response services throughout the state 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
The Red Cross responds to many calls for assistance. The majority are home and apartment fires - individual disasters that affect hundreds of families and individuals each year - but the Red Cross also responds to other calls for assistance, such as tornadoes, wildfires, severe storms and blizzards, floods, search and rescue operations, explosions and hazardous materials spills.
Not only does the Red Cross provide assistance for the individuals affected or displaced by the disaster, but the American Red Cross supports first responders on scene with food and water.
The Red Cross also provides Community Disaster Education to teach families, organizations, businesses and neighborhoods about ways to prepare for and respond to different types of disasters.
From June 30, 2008 to July 1, 2009, Red Cross Colorado Chapters responded to more than 400 disasters and provided assistance to more than 500 families.
