Make a Lasting Impact
The American Red Cross is the living legacy of selfless, compassionate visionaries who turned their humanitarian ideals into practical aid for those in need. Through sound fiscal management and the services of trained volunteers, the Red Cross derives the maximum benefit from every gift.
Leave a Legacy of Compassion and Generosity.
You can embody your personal compassion and humanitarian ideals through a planned gift. No gift has more lasting impact than a Bequest or Gift From Your Estate. A planned gift can also offer potential advantages such as tax savings and the ability to increase spendable income.
Below you'll find brief descriptions of various options for planned giving.
For additional information, Contact Planned Giving Officer Paul Jonas at (303) 607-4737 or for those outside the Denver Metro area call (800) 417-0495 to ask questions, set up an appointment or to request a free copy of Touching the Future, A Guide to Estate and Charitable Giving. The 38-page guide, presented in a handy workbook format, allows you to keep all your important information in one place, including:
- A record of property
- Family and business contacts including lawyer, executor, trustee and power of attorney
- Funeral arrangements and who should be notified
- Banking and insurance details
- Current wishes for distribution of property.

The Red Cross honors every planned gift donor with membership in the Legacy Society. The Legacy Society recognizes those who help us continue our lifesaving work through gifts to the American Red Cross. Anonymous gifts are welcome as well.
Donors have the option of being listed as a society member or remaining anonymous.
Planned Giving Options
Bequest
Many of our supporters make charitable gifts by naming the Red Cross as a beneficiary in their wills. When you leave a bequest to the Mile High Chapter, please use the wording “American Red Cross, Mile High Chapter” in the document.
Our tax identification number is 53-019-6605. Please contact Paul Jonas at (303) 607.4737 with any questions about percentage, specific or residual bequest strategies. Oftentimes, the best assets to bequeath are pre-tax retirement plans.
There is no income tax or estate tax loss on pre-tax assets bequeathed to charity. Simply contact your plan administrator for a beneficiary change form, often available on the administrator’s web page.
Life Income Gift
You can irrevocably transfer some assets to the Red Cross now, and in return, you (and a survivor, if you wish) receive income for life.
Gift of Life Insurance
Some of our supporters no longer need their life insurance, which was purchased years ago to provide for children or other family members, and donate the policy to the American Red Cross. Others designate the Red Cross as a policy beneficiary.
Pooled Income Fund
Your gift of money, marketable securities, or both is invested together with similar gifts from other supporters.
Charitable Lead Trust
Individuals with very large estates can use a charitable lead trust to benefit the American Red Cross and pass principal to family members with little or no tax penalty.
Gifts of Retirement Plans
Your IRA assets will be bequeathed directly to the Red Cross or to a charitable remainder trust. The trust will provide life income to the beneficiaries, and then an eventual gift to the Red Cross.
